(The above news was published in The Indian Express on May 31, 2012 http://www.indianexpress.com/news/bachcha-bada-ho-gaya/955933/ ) Medio Tyron Pereira has been the creative lynchpin for Mumbai hockey this season Very often owing to the already limited attention that hockey gets in cricket-mad India, it's always the strikers, drag-flickers and goalkeepers who end up hogging all available media-mentions. But, it is often the adroit game of midfielders that helps strikers in scooping into the nets and their resilient defence at the same time which drives back the oncoming attack. Yet, despite all that indifference towards midfielders, one name is quietly doing the rounds of popular hockey circles in India. Tyron Pereira, the 24-year-old right-half Mumbai player, who was instrumental in Mumbai's unbeaten run in the West Zone Senior National Hockey Championship has earned praise for his stellar performance in the hockey arena. The proficient athlete not only success...

(The above copy was published in Indian Express on June 12, 2012) It shouldn’t surprise anyone that he cannot do without his adrenaline rush. That more than anywhere else, he feels at home within the confines of his speedy four-wheelers. That Ameya Walwalkar’s idea of a routine day out mainly involves him notching up supersonic speeds in his race-cars. Setting breakneck paces and then trying his best to outdo them. After all very few would have gotten an opportunity to dabble with their wild side—quite literally—like Walwalkar did almost from the time he learned to walk. While his peers spent their youth indulging in the otherwise routine and mundane activities of youth, the 31-year-old Mumbaikar grew up feeding lions, running around with exotic and rare birds and riding atop elephants. All just for kicks. The Walwalkars, starting with the late Narayan Rao Walwalkar—Ameya’s grandfather—have owned and run The Great Royal Circus (GRC) for close to 50 years now. It’s no ordinary ...

Opinions and to be 'part of the herd' opinions!

One of my dear friend posted a random image on the facebook page about something she strongly felt about, an opinion which was reflexive and evident of the image. It was followed by several likes and comments, some of which were nice and the rest not so nice. Those likes and comments too, reflected an opinion or an ideology, or perhaps an understanding that they had in common or uncommon. This was followed by a huge debate on who thought what on what grounds, each hell-bent to prove his wordsworth (worth by means of words), much to the amusement of the onlookers who liked random comments and boosted and crushed several egos in the process. But, we all know, its a tough thing to put down. It will raise its ugly head every now and then as a matter of pride and satisfaction in being ugly. Now, to have several of those egos crashing down on each other's posts as if their intelligence would be determined by the vile comments they made and the ostentatious 'likes' they ga...

Live a little!

Sickle sickle, i am broke with only a nickel! You cut the grass, i wish i could cut u! Enrich myself as the humans do!

Incomprehensible

Several faces i have known, And ways to them i have shown. The way to feel, believe and rise a level high, Shall you not help me to help them? Even, so it be, selfishly i ask thy, as you may think, Pull me up or lent me a heart to strike a chord. I justify my demand, its not unreasonable to claim, For you know i have been abnormal, right since I tried! But, you shall console me to have given more than what i deserved for, True, aye sir, how true of you, how demanding of me?  To meekly surrender to my naive desires, shameless to think of it! SMIT, 'Wake Up, you wandering bird', you scream! 'There lies your way,  Deep down the water, right above the sky, Into the black hole, just like onto a Sun, There lies you way, Where nobody shall reach but you, But, 'o dear'. but first suffer your dejections and distractions, Accept your mistakes and if not all, Learn to move on for what shall be not yours only aim, Thats when you will be made,...

Dribble, might as well pass!

Obsessed and obstinate, holy as a cow, meek as a mouse, surrendered like a coward, mocked by a bitch; rather like a bitch! Albeit dreams imitate a lion, like shores beyond those horizons; but say, U stopped and might as well will stop me. If only for a while? How ruthless, a stop. How crude a thought, But, say no importance. Still an aftermath? Look, look, look, time play! Seems the seventh knot never knitted, shall it matter, No? Like those six, like the seventh!

NCTC: Needless Control towards Centre?

The Congress’ decision to introduce the National Council Terrorism Centre, effective from March 1, has met with severe protests from as many as 13 non-congress ministers and several other experts. ‘Framed’ on the lines of USA’s NCTC, India’s National Centre for Counter Terrorism will directly come under the control of the Information Bureau.  Under the new setup, officers of the Operations Division of the NCTC shall have the power to arrest and search under Section 43A of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967, which clearly means more power to the Centre. It is feared that this will result in rendering State Anti-Terrorism Units completely defunct. In an already complicated Intelligence setup, the NCTC will be the fourth major anti-terrorism body after the NATGRID, NIA and NSG. Even as NATGRID and NIA will function independent of NCTC, one must not forget that every state has its own dedicated counter terrorism units which can become very useful considering terrorism an...
