True Path to education

Although the title of these post may scream out of its lungs to sound philosophical,it is not meant to be.One may even attribute this title to the lack of creativity in naming a better one.Neways without much ado let me justify it.I had given the entrance exam for a reputed college for mass communication course.Much to my chagrin, inspite of a nice interview and equally better writing session i was put up in the waiting list, which essentially means am at the mercy of the students who have made it to the final merit list. Now the institute entertains only 40 students(mind you,the number was reduced from 80 to 40 this year), inspite of the sprawling campus which may round up to about 2 or 3acres easily. It seems ironical to me to have just 40 students in such a vast campus although they may argue that there are two more institutes adjacent to them which means just a little above 150 students or maybe even not.Moreso,at a time when India is facing shortage of adequate educational facilities and infrastructure to match its burgeoning population.the reason they attribute for this seems quite preposterous to me.The honourable chairman is of the view that he wants to encompass only the 'elites'.If elites according to him comprise of meagre forty of the one lac youths that appear for the exam then good lord!please save our nation from the rather wasteful individuals who apparently arent so 'elite' who claim to be the future potentials of the country;the country which aims to be the super power;the country which aims to overtake USA and China in their own game in few decades to come!

Even so,those elite also consist of the reserved candidates who score less marks and yet sneak into the supposedly niche institute.Or maybe it seems to me that the chairman is hellbent on improving his placement percentage and hence the drastic reduction of seats.

Another point for the eligiblity criteria that is clearly specified is the need to be a Graduate who must score above 50%.Something that our great personalities like Shah Rukh,Irfan Khan or for that matter Abbas Tyrewala(Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na fame) never quite managed yet have done quite good in their respective careers and i have made audacious attempt to sound strictly modest.I am not against the need to be a graduate but why should one be a graduate when he/she is quite sure of the field he chooses to be in.Personally,i have hardly felt the sincerity among my fellow friends who are pursuing their graduation essentially because they are doing just for the sake of it,just because our rigid education system makes it compulsory if you wish to pursue furthur courses in any stream.so one has no other option but to waste another three years loitering outside the college doing errands especially when the curriculum has very little to offer and can be gormandized just 15days before the exam.I dont understand the need to be one, though am left with little choice but to live with it.I find it surprising that our currently overworked minister Mr.Kapil Sibal never managed to understand the blot that is being brought about by the rigidity of the existing lethargic system with very few people attending colleges and of those only a handful attending the lectures. This reaffirms my stand against having the eligiblity criteria as a graduate.

It means that a visionary who has long decided his footsteps in another curriculum has to waste three years in doing something he never really had zest for (I bet there are really few things to be enthusiastic about in the curriculum) and deprive themselves of a good management of time and money...Things like these cut really a sorry figure for India..The true path to education is indeed difficult.Moreso when your interest really have no place in your curriculum..Long live the Youth and Its VITALITY!
