Selectors select....eeerrr!!!!!
I just read out today's sport column which said that Ambati Rayudu and Paul Valthaty had a chance of making it to the West Indies Tour that is due for the month of june.I couldnt help but pity at the lame decision of our selectors.Since when have we started taking into account a person's form in a 20-20 format as a bar for getting into national team? With all due respect to all those who are great fan of the above i can only pity the selector's vision. We are slowly forgetting the inning-builders in our process of selection. If this goes on i wont be surprised there are no more dravids, laxmans who form the backbone of our Test team.
I assure you that not even in my dreams do i have any doubt about the capability of these players but i simply do not agree with the selection criteria for the tour.Paul and Ambati have been excellent in their game and have shown a great potential of becoming one of the best players the country would ever see but to select a player on the basis of twenty overs is just immature. One will be surprised to know that Paul Valthaty is an uncapped Ranji player too.I am just flabbergasted as to how a person's merit and temperament of performing in a fifty over format is selected on the basis of hit-and-run format and if that's the case why not pick Robin Uthappa who has been consistent in the same for the last two years..
I would also have a question to our proud selectors as to why a Ranji Trophy which was considered as a ladder for the entry into the national team is being ignored shamelessly. What happened to Amol Muzumdar and Bhargav Bhatt? For most of those who dont know and may be even some of the selectors i assume, one is the highest run-getter while the latter is the highest wicket-taker. Or perhaps maybe they have not been in the news for quite a while hence this shoddy treatment.Ofcourse apart from your knowledge in the cricket field, this days you must know a lot about off-field operations too. After all a person must have an active social life too.
More than me,i think its the cricket lovers who have been irked the most with this blunder!i just pray its pure ignorance on their part if not anything else.!!!
