‘A-lone’ face among known crowds
People generally assume hostel to be the place where life enjoys its every moment. With practically no one to scoff at your deficiencies, it encourages you to live the life of a free bird. It’s also the only place where every friend is just a doorstep away, assignment and attendance is taken care in lieu of perquisites and most of all; it’s where beer bottles always run short of glasses! Parties, birthdays and festivals add zing to the already colourful life that one receives in the company of several buddies.
But, if that would suffice the entire hostel life, it’s surely an incomplete tale. With all its fun and galore, the life also passes though the dark, often recounted tales of depression and traumas that arise out of living in a different world. Hostile at times, a hostel life is often cruel. With new companions and newer rooms, it’s never easy for a person to settle with somebody who has completely different tastes. It’s also where experiences experience change as one moves from a place where everything is provided to nothing is to be shared; one wouldn't care less if you drop a jaw for weeks! With all sorts of seemingly impossible adjustments, you justify a men’s need to be social by making new friends and hoping for a secure environment.
Yet there are times when vagaries of life unsettle you to major disappointments. A dear friend’s snub, unexpected delay, missed attendances, uninvited parties and even the most insensitive person feels betrayed by the world.
We all know what it means to be cared and to have someone to share the diminutive moments of life is more than anything one truly asks for. The hostel life often demands more of affection and the loneliness often drives you for the search of the special one. But when a girl rejects your proposal or a guy snubs to justify his refusal, the little world that wishes to be shared crumbles to pieces.
Well, to sum up, hostel life can be very demanding. It’s like one of those lays chips which can taste salty and sugary at any moment. But, with all its pains and pressures, hostel life is the journey, worth exploring for all. After all, life is exciting when it is not straight!
